Why it stands out
Fitzbillies is woven into Cambridge’s everyday geography. Founded by Ernest and Arthur Mason in 1920, the original branch now spans a bakery and cake shop, a table-service tearoom and a counter-service coffee shop. The enduring draw is the Chelsea bun, but this is also the branch with the widest food range: brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, bread and whole cakes. Its walk-in policy keeps a century-old institution feeling accessible rather than ceremonial.
