Why it stands out
The Eagle’s appeal begins with the building. This is a 17th-century, Grade II-listed pub opposite St Bene’t’s church, layered with the stories that make Cambridge feel unusually close to its past. Its best-known link is to Watson and Crick’s double-helix discovery; the RAF Bar adds another strand of 20th-century history. Today it remains a working Greene King pub, serving familiar British pub dishes, roasts and pints rather than behaving like a museum.
